Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A Plus, has responded with derogatory remarks to a constituent who appealed for help with flooding in the area.
The resident, who was seen standing in knee-deep floodwater, urged the MP to address issues concerning drainage in the constituency.
The resident acknowledged A Plus’ work on entertainment initiatives in the community but asked him to also address drainage challenges causing homes to flood.
In a Facebook post, A Plus rejected the tone of the appeal. He accused some Ghanaians of expecting too much from public officials, saying, “many of you Ghanaians have been pampered for far too long. Me I no dey fear you. The water no enter you well. Like e for carry you enter the yenku forest.”
He added that he could not be blackmailed with votes.
He stated that while he was not NADMO, constituents could still reach out to him for help, but he would respond strongly if he felt disrespected.
The MP also referenced recent criticism directed at the Kumasi Mayor over demolitions in waterways, saying he would not be treated differently.
The exchange has since sparked debate online. Some users have defended the MP’s right to respond firmly, while others say elected officials should be more measured when addressing constituents dealing with flood-related hardship.
