The Deputy Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Krobea Asante, has expressed strong outrage over the ongoing xenophobic attacks against foreigners in South Africa.
He said he wishes South African-owned businesses in Ghana would be “chased out” in retaliation.
Speaking on Angel FM’s ‘Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ’ on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Asante lamented that while Ghana remains a peaceful and hospitable nation, South African businesses benefit excessively from Ghanaian consumers despite the hostile environment faced by Ghanaians abroad.
Krobea also highlighted that major commercial giants operating in Ghana, including telecommunications leader MTN, satellite television service DStv, and mining firm AngloGold Ashanti, are heavily tied to South African ownership.
He argued that the current economic relationship is deeply unequal and benefits South Africa far more than Ghana.
“If Africans can come together and fight South Africans, I’ll be happy,” Krobea said.
He further questioned what peace would look like if ordinary Ghanaians chose to take the law into their own hands against South Africans.
He also commended President John Dramani Mahama for declining a planned state visit by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Asante alleged that President Ramaphosa’s leadership supports the systemic violence targeting foreign nationals in South Africa, pointing to a recent horrific incident where a Ghanaian citizen was shot in the head. He stressed that the escalating brutality justified the diplomatic snub.
Asante urged the Ghanaian public to loudly voice their condemnation of the xenophobic crisis and called upon the government to act swiftly to protect its citizens abroad.
