The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ‘Let Love Lead’, a non-governmental organization, Mr. Dawood Akwesi Agyemang, popularly known as Big Dawood, has urged Ghanaians to actively desist from poor sanitation behaviors and embrace clean environmental habits.
Speaking to the media during the National Sanitation Day Exercise at Nima in the Ayawaso North Municipality — an initiative declared by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama — Mr. Agyemang expressed his enthusiasm for the campaign, calling it a vital step toward transforming the country’s landscape.
Mr. Agyemang strongly cautioned citizens against the indiscriminate dumping of waste into gutters and open public spaces, warning that such practices undermine public health and city infrastructure.
He also urged residents to stop littering and practice good sanitation. Referencing the heavy rains that hit Accra on Monday, June 29, he noted that the NGO visited several flooded communities to assess the damage to homes and property. Describing the situation as “sad, pitiful and heartbreaking,” he stressed the need for urgent action.
He further stated that refuse must be stored properly at the household level and handed over to designated waste management stakeholders who are authorized to handle disposal. This was after donating items including bottled water, biscuits and other products to support the Ayawaso North Assembly on Sanitation Day.
“It is time to clean Ghana. It is time to make our city very beautiful,” Mr. Agyemang stated, emphasizing that civic pride begins with personal responsibility.
Bringing his remarks to an end, he noted that achieving a pristine environment requires collective action, adding that every Ghanaian must make a conscious effort to practice and promote good sanitation behavior daily.
He further called on the government, guardians, and relevant stakeholders to support the NGO financially.
While the organization wishes to reach out to more vulnerable communities, its impact is currently limited by financial constraints.
He urged these groups to assist so the NGO can continue moving its vital mission forward.
