Ghana Athletics has announced a 13-member team for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, with experienced sprinters Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Amoah and Rose Yeboah leading the country’s medal charge.
The squad, unveiled in a press release, was selected in collaboration with the Ghana Olympic Committee for the Games, which will take place from July 23 to August 2. They will compete in the sprints, relays, hurdles, high jump, 400m hurdles, and middle-distance events.
The team features a blend of seasoned international athletes and emerging talents as Ghana looks to build on recent successes at continental and international competitions.
The men’s team comprises Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Amoah, Mustapha Bokpin, Isaac Botsio, Mammoudu Baba Seidu, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu and James Dadzie, while the women athletes are Rose Yeboah, Deborah Acheampong, Anita Afrifa, Evonne Britton, Abigail Abugire and Lovina Ewusi.
Azamati, Amoah, Saminu, Botsio, Acheampong, Afrifa, Bokpin, Dadzie and Ewusi are expected to compete in the sprint events, while Rose Yeboah will represent Ghana in the high jump.
Evonne Britton has been selected for the 100m hurdles and the women’s 4x100m relay; Abigail Abugire will contest the 800m, and Mammoudu Baba Seidu will compete in the 400m hurdles.
According to Ghana Athletics, the Commonwealth Games present a valuable opportunity for the nation’s athletes to compete against some of the best competitors from across the Commonwealth while showcasing Ghana’s growing strength in athletics.
“Team Ghana enters the competition with confidence and determination, building on recent successes at continental and international events,” the release said.
The athletics governing body believes the squad’s representation reflects its commitment to athlete development and long-term excellence, combining “experienced” and “emerging” talent as Ghana prepares for the multi-sport event in Glasgow.
