Two people have died and six others sustained injuries after a multi-vehicle collision and fire on the Kumasi Highway at Brim River.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said firefighters were alerted to the incident at 11:00 a.m. on Monday August 3,and arrived at the scene at 11:03 a.m.
According to GNFS, the crash involved a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up with registration number GE 8602-17, a Kia Sorento with registration number GT 8601-14, and an STC bus with registration number GS 7050-22.
Fire officials said the fuel tanker, STC bus and the Mitsubishi pick-up were burnt beyond recognition, while the Kia Sorento was totally damaged.
GNFS added that firefighters have extinguished the fuel tanker fire and are currently clearing debris from the collision to allow for the safe passage of vehicles.
Six casualties, comprising four males and two females, have been taken to the Hawa Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Two male occupants of the fuel tanker died in the fire and were burnt beyond recognition. Their bodies have been handed over to the police.
The cause of the collision and subsequent fire is under investigation. The situation is currently under control.
