Five people, including a driver, have been injured after armed robbers attacked two VIP JEOUN coaches on Thursday, July 30, 2026, on the Accra-Kumasi and Kumasi-Sunyani highways.
According to a statement issued by VIP JEOUN Transport Company Limited on Friday, July 31, the first attack occurred at about 11 p.m. on the Accra-Kumasi Highway, on a section between Apedwa Junction via Nkronso, Akooko and Akyem Asafo.
Armed robbers used a car to block the highway and engaged in banditry. Three coaches were caught up in the blockade. The robbers shot at one coach en route from Accra to Sunyani repeatedly, with the driver, mate, and three passengers sustaining injuries.
The driver has since been transferred to the 37 Military Hospital for further treatment. Police officers from Suhum, in the Eastern South Region, successfully repelled the robbers and re-opened the highway.
About two hours later, at around 1 a.m., another VIP JEOUN coach was attacked at Potrikrom on the Kumasi to Sunyani Highway. The robbers shot at and damaged the coach’s windshield, but the armed escort on board repelled the attack. No passenger suffered any injury. A police patrol team also arrived at the scene.
VIP JEOUN said it values the security of passengers and crew on board and remains committed to ensuring hassle-free transportation.
