The Black Satellites’ hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship ended on Sunday after they were held to a goalless draw by Togo in their final Group B match.
The decisive encounter, played at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, saw Ghana dominate large portions of the game but fail to find the goal needed to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Knowing that only a victory would guarantee progress, Maxwell Konadu’s side delivered a more disciplined and organised performance compared to their earlier matches, controlling possession and creating several opportunities.
The young Ghanaians appeared to have broken the deadlock midway through the contest, but their celebrations were halted after the goal was ruled out, leaving them searching for another breakthrough.
Ghana continued to push forward in the closing stages, but Togo’s defence remained resolute and held on for the draw that confirmed the Black Satellites’ early exit from the competition.
The result left Ghana third in Group B with two points from three matches, ending a campaign that began with a 4-2 defeat to Nigeria before a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso.
Despite showing improvement as the tournament progressed, the goalless draw against Togo proved insufficient to secure a place in the semi-finals.
