The Birem and Dwenti Fetish priest, Nana Abrefa Gyan Baffour, has sounded a strong warning about the devastating effects of illegal mining on Ghana’s future.

He has, therefore, called on authorities to take immediate action against the menace popularly called ‘galamsey’ before the country plunges into serious hardship.

According to Nana Abrefa Gyan Baffour, the destruction of water bodies due to galamsey activities, coupled with harmful sacrifices performed in these water sources, have driven away many water spirits that once protected and blessed the land.

He believes this will have dire consequences on Ghana’s economy, agriculture, and general well-being if proper measures are not implemented to curb the practice.

He urged national leaders, traditional rulers, and security agencies to intensify efforts in fighting illegal mining, warning that failure to act swiftly could result in severe drought, food shortages, and worsening economic conditions.

Nana Abrefa Gyan Baffour’s statement adds to the growing concerns of environmentalists, traditional leaders, and citizens who continue to call for stronger enforcement against galamsey to protect the country’s natural resources and secure a sustainable future.
