The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) started a phase II major decongestion exercise on Monday,17th November in the Central Business District (CBD), displacing traders who were operating in unauthorized areas.
The exercise aims to improve safety and accessibility in the area. Traders are being relocated, and the assembly has warned that those who resist will face consequences.
Amadu Mustapha Zakaria, Public Relations Officer for the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), emphasized that traders should not sell on the roads, regardless of whether alternative space is found for them
He stressed that pedestrians have the right to use the pavements and roads without obstruction, and the TMA is committed to ensuring that public spaces are kept clear and safe for all users.
Inusah Fuseni, Public Relations Officer for Tamale Central Market, appealed for a more consultative approach, suggesting that the Mayor should engage with traders to understand their concerns.
