Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Ashanti Region, under the banner of the Ashanti Caucus, have made a strong appeal to the government to prioritize the construction and upgrading of major highways in the region.
They emphasized that many of these road projects were initiated under the previous administration but remain incomplete.
The Ashanti Caucus, led by the MP for Bantama Constituency, Hon. Asenso Boakye, is urging the government—through the Minister for Roads and Highways—to incorporate these networks into current plans and initiatives.
Addressing the media in Parliament on Monday, February 9, 2026, the Caucus highlighted that the Ashanti Region is the country’s second-largest business hub, a status that naturally results in heavy traffic flows along its roadways.
According to them, the inadequate state of the existing road network has made it difficult to accommodate the growing vehicular demands.
Hon. Asenso Boakye noted that the highway project is not merely an isolated endeavor but a vital component of the extensive Big PUSH Bill passed by Parliament, underscoring its importance for regional development and mobility.
He further stressed that the long-awaited four-tier infrastructural system should be maintained in its original form and not reduced to a two-tier system.
The Caucus warned that condensing the project would significantly undermine its effectiveness and the potential benefits it could bring to the region and its inhabitants.
