Ghana’s viral shea butter wellness experience, popularised by Hamamat Montia at her Shea Butter Village and Museum in Tamale and Accra, is sparking playful across border banter after a Lagos spa recreated the now famous “Kuriya Kruya” massage setting.
The traditional shea butter therapy, which blends Northern Ghanaian techniques with calabashes, local fabrics( Kante) and cultural decor , gained international attention after visits by Jamaican dancehall star Popcaan and American YouTuber IShowSpeed.
The trend has trend across borders with a Lagos-based wellness centre, Glee Spa, recreating a similar visual concept using kente-inspired cloth, calabashes and traditional-style massage setups.

The move has triggered light hearted reactions online, particularly among Ghanaians, who see the imitation as a sign of the concept’s success.
“Now we Ghanaians are colonizing you Nigerians,” one social media user, Angeless Glow, commented.
Another wrote, “And they are using our kente design too,” referencing the iconic Ghanaian textile featured in the recreated spa decor.
