The Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has ruled that petitions seeking the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, her Deputies, and the Special Prosecutor do not disclose a prima facie case.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications.
The statement explained that President John Dramani Mahama had received seven petitions against the Electoral Commissioner and her Deputies, along with three petitions against the Special Prosecutor.
However, in line with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 15 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959), the President referred the petitions to the Chief Justice on November 25, 2025, for a determination.
According to the statement, the Chief Justice informed the President that none of the petitions established a prima facie case.
He has thereby ruled out further investigations or removal proceedings.
