The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has intercepted 18 trucks carrying suspected smuggled consignments of cooking oil, tomato paste, and spaghetti in a sweeping operation targeting transit fraud.
Commissioner-General Anthony Kwasi Sarpong confirmed that 12 trucks are in custody, while five are still under active pursuit.
He said the estimated duty value of the seized goods exceeds GH¢85 million.
He described the intelligence-led raid as a decisive blow against economic sabotage, revealing that goods declared for Burkina Faso and Niger were allegedly diverted into Ghana through the Akanu corridor.
“If you want to trade in Ghana, pay your taxes. If you attempt to cheat the system, you will lose your goods and your trucks,” he warned.
According to him, the operation aims to protect vital state revenue and shield local manufacturers from unfair competition.
The commissioner-General explained that a national press briefing is expected as investigations intensify to dismantle the smuggling syndicate.
