The Deputy Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jennifer Queen Oforiwaa, is calling for accountability and transparency in the conduct of investigations into the recent tax evasion at the Customs Division.
She noted that oftentimes, public and civil servants entangled in alleged corruption and corruption-related matters are either interdicted or transferred without being made to face the law, which would significantly deter others.
Speaking on the ‘Anopa Bofuo’ show, hosted by Ohemaa Sekyiwaa on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Madam Oforiwaa highlighted that transferring public and civil servants to different positions does not inherently change their behaviour or character.
According to the outspoken politician, many civil and public servants lack discipline, which breeds corruption and other unethical practices, adding that these behaviours are mostly perceived as a norm in their field, thereby influencing other appointees placed under their supervision.
“I’m not saying someone should lose his or her job, but if you make mistakes and lose your job, it will serve as a deterrent to other people,” she said on Angel TV and added it will underscores instlling culture of discipline among Ghanaians.
In a move to curb these recurring menaces plaguing the country, Madam Oforiwaa called on authorities to supervise not only transparency but also an accountable investigative process.
“This is a national discussion; it shouldn’t be politicised, so the government must ensure accountability and transparency.”
She further suggested the dismissal and prosecution of those found guilty of misconduct at the end of the investigative exercise.
