The Accra Regional Police Command has expressed its readiness to enforce a High Court order prohibiting the planned “Stop Galamsey” demonstration scheduled for Friday, February 27, 2026.
The Command revealed that the High Court in Accra had, on February 24, granted an Order for Prohibition restraining the conveners from holding the protest.
The court’s decision, according to the police, was taken in the interest of public order and safety, particularly as the demonstration coincides with the State of the Nation Address (SONA).
The police further dismissed claims circulating on social media that the conveners had not been served with any court process.
“The Court Order has been properly served in accordance with due process,” the statement clarified.
The Command emphasized that it will enforce the order in line with the law, while also expressing openness to engage the conveners to agree on a mutually convenient date for the protest under the Public Order Act.
“The Accra Regional Police Command urges the general public to comply with the Court Order and avoid any actions that may lead to breaches of the peace,” the statement read.
It assured stakeholders of its commitment to upholding constitutional rights while ensuring public safety and law and order.
