One person has reportedly sustained severe burns following a fire outbreak at Nzemaline, Tarkwa, in the Western Region.
The inferno, which struck a two-storey commercial-cum-residential building, destroyed portions of the residence, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.
According to the GNFS, the incident occurred on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at about 2:15 p.m.
It explained that personnel from the Tarkwa Fire Station, led by Sub Officer Anthony Buckman, responded swiftly to a distress call and arrived to find a ground-floor shop within the building engulfed in flames.
It added a rapid intervention by the firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to adjoining structures.
Although parts of the facility suffered extensive damage, the GNFS reported that eight shops and six bedrooms were salvaged from destruction.
The victim, who sustained severe burns during the incident, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations by the GNFS suggest the fire was caused by an electrical fault and indicated further investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause.
