Leader of Union Government (UG), Akwasi Addai Odike, says partisan politics is crippling the effective operations and progress of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
He emphasized, among other contributing factors, that partisanship has become the primary obstacle to TOR, a development he said is condemnable.
“What has weakened TOR’s ability to move forward is partisan politics,” he claimed on Angel TV on Monday, March 9, 2026.
Mr. Odike explained that whenever there is a change of government, the incumbent government often appoints its party member as TOR CEO to replace the outgoing CEO, disrupting continuity and effectiveness of the refinery.
“When NPP comes, what they do at TOR is different; when NDC comes, what they do at TOR is different,” he expressed while taking a swipe at the two biggest political parties.
The Presidential hopeful noted that, unlike Dr. Osaegyefo Kwame Nkrumah, who envisioned a cost-effective system for processing imported crude oil into various fuel types, such as premix fuel and aviation fuel, the NPP and the NDC only came to disregard his model.
“NPP and NDC said no; they have boycotted what Kwame Nkrumah said. So they won’t allow TOR to work again,” he asserted.
