The Ga Central Municipal Assembly on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, distributed sanitation equipment to various drivers’ unions in the municipality to tackle poor sanitation at bus terminals.
The presentation was held at the forecourt of the Assembly and led by Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Emmanuel Adottey Allotey.

Speaking at the event, Allotey said the Assembly engaged more than 30 drivers’ unions after identifying sanitation as a “very disturbing issue” at bus terminals across Ga Central.
“We approached them as Municipal authorities and they agreed to keep the bus terminals clean, and they said they’d need sanitation equipment to help keep the terminals tidy,” he stated.

Through the Assembly Common Fund, the Assembly procured dustbins, wheelbarrows, rakes, and shovels which have been distributed to every union “to make good use of them so that it’ll improve sanitation,” the MCE added.
Allotey also disclosed that the Assembly has approved about 15 licensed private waste collection companies and assigned them to the various drivers’ unions in the municipality.
“We humbly ask drivers to give the trash to the waste companies when they come for it,” he said.
He further urged residents and transport operators to avoid dumping refuse at unapproved places and to “take very good care of these sanitation tools because they are the state’s property.”

Ga Central Municipal Environmental Officer, Randolph Benjamin Morkeh, also charged drivers to avoid dumping waste into gutters, especially during this rainy season to prevent flooding. He cautioned against burning waste, noting it pollutes the environment.

A representative from the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) – Antie Aku branch, Elijah Ohene Ofori, commended the MCE for distributing the tools. He urged all drivers within the Assembly to make good use of them.
