The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested 44 suspects and dismantled an alleged drug distribution network suspected of targeting university students in Kumasi.
In a statement dated Tuesday, July 7, 2026 from the Public Affairs Unit, the Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team, SOT, in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Command, conducted intelligence-led operations between July 3 and 5 in Emena New Site, Bodi, Abuabo, Ash Town, Kodie, Bremang, Pankrono, Gyinyase and surrounding communities.
According to the Police, the operation led to the arrest of 44 suspects – 41 males and 3 females – for various narcotics-related offences.

A major outcome was the dismantling of an alleged network suspected of producing, distributing, and selling narcotic-infused products to university students.

Among those arrested are Emmanuel Duah, 24, alleged to have produced cannabis-laced toffees advertised online and sold primarily to students; Richard Boateng, 45, alleged to have produced cannabis-infused alcoholic beverages for distribution to students; and Frederick Agyei, alleged to have been a principal supplier of cannabis to university students.

Police said the swoop led to the recovery of 200 sachets of 225mg Tramadol tablets, quantities of 250mg Tramadol tablets, 400 sealed wraps of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, locally prepared fruit juice “Femude” and other concoctions suspected to contain narcotics.
Other items retrieved include a medium-sized double-door refrigerator used to store the suspected substances, Rizla rolling papers, black polythene bags with dried leaves, and 9 casino jackpot machines alleged to have been used in illegal activities.

All exhibits have been secured for forensic examination, while the suspects remain in police custody assisting investigations.
The Police say they are pursuing additional suspects believed to be connected to the network to “dismantle every link in the supply chain.”

The Ghana Police Service assured the public, particularly students, parents, and educational institutions, of its commitment to protecting schools and communities from illicit drug trafficking.

It also commended members of the public for providing timely intelligence and urged citizens to continue supporting law enforcement.
