Shatta Wale has disclosed what caused the breakdown of his close relationship with Nigerian Grammy-winning artiste Burna Boy, alleging that false accusations spread by some of his former associates drove a wedge between them.
The dancehall musician made the revelation during an interview on the Brunch podcast, a clip of which has since circulated on social media.
According to Shatta Wale, the friendship deteriorated after some individuals he previously worked with allegedly contacted influential people in his life and made damaging claims about him.
He alleged that the group falsely informed Burna Boy that he was romantically involved with the Nigerian singer’s girlfriend, an accusation he insists was completely untrue.
Shatta Wale explained that he had parted ways with the individuals before they allegedly began spreading the rumours.
“I had this team I was working with, and I eventually told them that I didn’t want to work with them anymore. About five or seven of these guys started calling every rich man or every important person in my life, telling them I was sleeping with their wives.
“One of them affected Burna Boy. They told Burna Boy that I was sleeping with his girl. They literally wanted to destroy my relationships with everyone,” he said.
The ‘On God’ hitmaker further claimed that Burna Boy never confronted him about the allegation, choosing instead to cut off communication without hearing his side of the story.
Reflecting on their friendship, Shatta Wale recalled supporting Burna Boy and his family during a challenging period when they were in Ghana, describing the bond they once shared as one of brotherhood.
“His mum is like my mother because there was a time Burna had a problem in Ghana. They drove from Nigeria to Ghana, and I met them, took them somewhere safe, and looked after them. His mother knew we were like brothers.
“I didn’t know they had told him those things, and he decided not to talk to me. Sometimes when I sit down and watch Burna now, I thank God I never depended on anyone. I fought for myself to get to where I am today because, if I hadn’t, those so-called friends would have made me lose the opportunity I had with Burna,” he added.
