Reggae artiste, Ras Kuuku, has recounted the challenges he faced during his childhood, revealing the unusual measures he took to avoid selling sachet water after school.
Speaking during an interview, the musician disclosed that he was required to sell ice water after classes but eventually grew tired of the responsibility.
He revealed that he repeatedly damaged his guardian’s refrigerator to temporarily escape the task.
“Whenever I returned from school, I was made to sell ice water, and I would kick and stamp on the fridge so it would spoil,” he recounted.
Ras Kuuku explained that whenever the refrigerator was sent for repairs, he would get some time away from selling the water.
When his guardian eventually abandoned the sachet water business and instructed him to sell slippers instead, the musician said he resorted to another tactic.
He claimed he pretended to be unwell and asked to be taken to Achimota Hospital, where he secretly approached a doctor and admitted that he was not actually sick.
“I told the doctor I had suffered for too long and begged him to write a report stating that I should never carry anything on my head again,” he uttered.
According to Ras Kuuku, the doctor agreed and issued a medical note that exempted him from carrying goods for sale.
The reggae artiste also recalled pounding fufu regularly as a child, saying the activity eventually stopped after he suffered a shoulder injury at school.
Despite the hardships, Ras Kuuku expressed gratitude to the woman who raised him, praising her for making sacrifices to provide him and the other children in her care with a good education and basic needs.
He acknowledged that although their upbringing was difficult, his guardian did her best to support them with the resources available to her.
