The Electoral Commission (EC) has discredited allegations of aspiring MP for Ketu South, Madam Dzifa Gomashie impugning the integrity of the ongoing voter’s registration exercise,
But the EC referred to the allegations as “baseless and unfounded”.
Setting the records straight, the EC stated that the voter registration exercise in Viepe is taking place at the R/C Primary School whereas the mop-up exercise of the National Identification Authority (NIA) is taking place at the Roman Catholic Church located more than 100 metres away.
In a statement dated Wednesday, August 5, the Commission said that, its attention has been drawn to a video recording in which Madam Gomashie claimed that the voter registration exercise in Viepe has been discontinued to make way for the registration of the Ghana card.
The MP aspirant further insinuated that her claims is a proof of a grand agenda to reduce the opposition votes in Ketu South in the Volta Region.
“The Commission finds the statement by the Aspiring Member of Parliament unfortunate,” it said.
The Commission has therefore urged the public to disregard the said video along with its contents.
“Not only is her statement untrue but it also has the tendency of causing unnecessary tensions and disaffection for the commission and its staff”, the EC’s statement read.
The Commission backed its position saying that their goal is to ensure that all eligible voters are duly captured on the electoral roll.
