Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has rescinded its decision to prevent some students, who misconducted themselves, from writing their remaining papers in the ongoing WASSCE examinations.
According to GES, “the students are permitted to write their WASSCE in their respective schools”.
This was contained in a release signed by the Director-General of the GES, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, and issued on Monday, August 10, 2020.
This decision follows President Akufo-Addo’s directive that the Education Minister should engage leadership of GES to reconsider banning some 13 students from continuing their WASSCE exams.
The GES dismissed the students from four Senior High Schools for acts of vandalism and riots after their Integrated Science paper on Monday, August 3, 2020.
Despite allowing the said students to sit for the exams, GES says they are still dismissed, thus must exit their various school compounds immediately.
“Heads of affected schools should allow the students involved to come to the compounds to write any paper they are due under guardian escort”, the statement added.
The Education Service further directed that students, who are in schools where school properties were vandalized, should be billed with the full cost of the damage.
Additionally, it said that their results shall be withheld until they pay for the full cost of the items destroyed.
“Further, all acts of vandalism and other criminal acts must be reported to the security agencies for further investigations”, GES directed.
