Calm has been restored by police at Odododiodoo in the Greater Accra Region following Saturday afternoon’s protests by some concerned youth of the area over alleged exemption of the current Mayor from office.

It would be recalled that on Thursday September 16, 2021, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin announced that President Akufo-Addo had submitted the list of nominated Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to the Minister of Local Government and Regional Reorganisation, Dan Botwe.

The release of the information led to speculations that the names of some 37 women were part of the list including Elizabeth Sackey, and Catherine Reckling, the District Chief Executive for Sekyere South in the Ashanti Region.

According to the group which is calling itself Concerned Youth Of Odododiodoo, their actions come after information they have received indicate that Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah will be replaced by former Greater Accra deputy minister, Elizabeth Sackey in the MMDCEs list to be announced on Sunday, September 19.

They again cited their anger as due to the successes chalked by Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah and how he has helped transform Odododiodoo, one of the three constituencies that constitute the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in the Greater Accra Region.

Chanting war songs with burning of car tyres the protestors said; ‘no Adjei Sowah, no vote’ and no Adjei Sowah, no Mayor’, blocked the Atta Mills High Street and expressed it concerns for almost three hours.

A team of police was however deployed swiftly to the scene to maintain peace and order, and to protect life.
