President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC) has refuted claims being circulated in the media that the country risks becoming a Muslim state should Lesbianism, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) activities be legalised, a statement which was attributed to him.

The statement published in the media outlets read: “Those who are promoting gays and lesbians are not going to have children at all and within a short time nobody should be surprised that the Muslims will become a majority in this country and declare it an Islamic State.”

According to Most Reverend Philip Naameh, who has served for 44 years as Priest, the claims are “false and do not in anyway reflect the actual content of the conversation which has to do with the church’s support for the bill”.

Considering the publication as such, he believes it was intended to thwart the efforts of the coalition to get the anti-LGBTQ+ bill passed, for which reason the general public should disregard the publications.

“I have the feeling that they [publishers] only sought to cause disaffection fir me and break the front of the formidable Coalition behind the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill.”

Below is the full statement issued by the Most Rev. Naameh:
