Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has indicated that Parliament will not disappoint Ghanaians when the house converges to vote on the passage of the anti LGBTQ+ bill.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on October 12, 2021, he explained that Members of Parliament (MP) represent the interest of their people in the house and would therefore do the needful in meeting their desires.

Basing his argument on Article 125 of the 1992 Constitution, he said the power resides with the people who decide how their lives should be led, which is why Parliament would heed to the cry of the public.

“Justice emanates from the people and shall be administered in the name of the public by the Judiciary who is independent and subject to this Constitution [1992 Constitution]…As Ghanaians we have our own upbringing and we have our own set of values. And it is these values that guide us, and that is why the constitution provides that justice emanates from the people.

“I belong to the Assemblies of God and I cannot say that my upbringing has not also been impacted by my Christian values. Equally so for the honourable Abeiku who is also impacted by his religion but we have our set of values and I really don’t know of any ethnic group in Ghana who would applaud the issues about LGBTQ+,” he said.

Mr. Kyei Mensah-Bonsu however advised that commentators on the issues should desist from attaching “emotions and sentiments because while we do that it clouts the rationality of the issues.”
