Bench warrant issued for arrest of Nhyiaeso MP for flouting traffic regulations

The La Magistrate Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, and one Samuel Anim for failing to appear before the court on Wednesday, December 8, 2021.

The legislator was arrested by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in a special operation on Tuesday, December 7.

He was arrested with some six others over road traffic offenses including the said Samuel Anim.

The Nhyiaeso MP was put before the La Magistrate together with Joseph Brown, Samuel A. Anim, Emmanuel Kofi Ofori, Dimini Atuahene, Thomas Atinga and Daniel Boateng.

The suspects were arrested on Tuesday between 4:00pm and 6:30pm when police mounted an operation around Airport By-pass to check V8 drivers disregarding road traffic regulations.

According to the police in a statement, the seven suspects were “arrested for the offences of careless driving, dangerous driving and causing road obstruction among others.”

Five of the suspect drivers appeared before the court where four, namely; Dominic Atuahene-Ababio, Daniel Boateng, Emmanuel Kofi Ofori and Joseph Brown were sentenced to pay a fine of 1,800 cedis each or in default serve a three-month prison term.

All four convicted drivers paid their fines however, Thomas Atinga was convicted to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for three months or default serve a three-month prison term.

The police administration has since directed all police formations through out the country to clamp down on recalcitrant drivers especially those who drive V8 vehicles.

They are cautioned to stop flouting traffic regulations or be prepared to face the full rigors of the law when found culpable of such offenses.
