The Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region has cleared all temporary and permanent structures situated on the land belonging to the High Court.
The demolition exercise, which started over the weekend, was carried out by a task force of the Municipal Assembly.
This comes on the back of directives from the Municipal Assembly dating as far back as February 2020, for the encroachers to vacate the place.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Eric Tetteh, explained that his outfit initially sent verbal and official notices to occupants on the land to vacate the place but they failed to heed the directives.
“Sometime early this year we wanted to start the demolition exercise so I went to these traders one by one to inform them to relocate their structures but some told me it was going to be costly relocating such structures.
“So now that the court is about to start its operation, there was no way they can be there to share the premises with the court,” the MCE explained.
Some affected traders expressed worry about the development and admitted being served the notices to vacate the place.
They stressed that they were in search of a new place to relocate before the assembly took its decision to pull the structures down.
