Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates of Peadico International School are appealing to the President of the Republic to intervene in the destruction of their school.
The clarion call follows the demolishing of their school situated at Community 24 in the Tema West Municipality by a developer, Tema Development Community Limited (TDC).
The exercise, Angel News gathered, prevented the final year students from partaking in the BECE conducted last year since it disrupted the teaching and learning process.
To worsen matters, the students’ hopes for taking part in this year’s examination have been left hanging since task forces of the TDC continue to threaten the school to stay off the land.
According to the students’, the TDC bent on demolishing the school which serves adjoining areas including Adjei-Kojo, Sun City, Japan City and others, has created insecurity and an unconducive learning atmosphere.
Speaking to Angel FM’s reporter, Ahiabor Augustine, some of the students who largely are orphans and needy children, shared that the teachers have not been stable due to the TDC bent on demolishing their school.
“We are not getting the teachers who would room, teach us to go and write the BECE,” said Rachael Maku Aheto.
“The teachers come and teach us for a day or three then they leave, sometimes at most two to three months,” said Ishmael Pomeyi.
Peadico International School is among land properties that are suffering the seemingly unjust demolishing by the TDC.
The school proprietress, Peace Negbleh, disclosed that she submitted an attestation letter from the late Nii Adjei Kraku, the Tema Mantse to TDC in 2012 for regularization which the latter acknowledged and replied, but since 2013 they have refused to do the needful.
The widow, Peace Negbleh, added that several efforts to get TDC to regularize the place have proven futile but the company keeps demolishing portions of the school and is bent on evicting them from the legitimately acquired land.
She, therefore, pleaded that the president steps in before the issue claims her life as well as deprives deserving but needy children of their right to education as enshrined in the constitution of Ghana.
”You all should help me plead with the President, Nana Addo for him also to plead with TDC for me because I cannot just look at the children’s faces and close down the school,” the proprietress pleaded.
