A former Vice chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Joseph Ade Coker, has described the present the game in the country as “a complete disaster.”
Sharing his view on the current state of the topflight football in the country on the Anopa Bofo Morning Show on Angel 102.9FM and Angel TV on Thursday, November 10, 2022, Mr Coker said, the local game is in its abysmal state compared to the past.
He stated that “the league is a disaster, it’s a complete disaster” because “you get square pegs in round holes.”
According to him, in spite of how developed the game has become in the 21st century, the patronage of the local game is below expectations.
He bemoaned, the low attendance on matchdays has made football unpopular to fans in the country because, the quality of play has reduced drastically unlike in the late 1990s and early 2000 when fans are not compelled to troop to the stadia to cheer their teams.
Ade Coker also spoke about how attractive the league was during the times he was active in football and the fact that the various divisions like the Under 17, 19 and 20 were all very effective making the national teams habe an array of players to pick from at the junior levels.
The former chairman of Accra Great Olympics, therefore, called on the leadership of the football association to do more to make the game attractive to football loving fans.
