A former Member of Parliament for Tema East, Daniel Titus Glover has pleaded with both the Majority and Minority caucuses of Parliament to give the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, the chance to present the 2023 budget statement on Thursday, November 24.
This comes on the back of the caucuses’ resolve to cause the removal of Mr Ken Ofori-Atta for his “abysmal performance” which has resulted in the country’s economic downturns.
According to the former NPP MP, the plea is due to the ongoing IMF negotiations among others which needs his active involvement in a bid to turn the fortunes of the country around.
Speaking on TV3’s Big issue, Mr Glover stated that “let me join hands with the few Ghanaians who are appealing to both sides of the house, particularly, my colleagues from the majority, that they should listen to what the President said when they met him with regards to the challenges they have with the Finance Minister.
“He should be allowed to read the budget, take them through the negotiations with the IMF. I will implore my colleagues, both sides, to allow the Finance Minister to come to the chamber and deliver the budget on behalf of the President, it is an appeal and a passionate one.”
Meanwhile, for the past years, it takes the President to appoint the Finance Minister to present the budget statement to Parliament however, things are likely to change this year due to the calls for the removal of the Finance Minister by both Majority and Minority over his alleged role in the economic hardship facing the country.
The presentation of the 2023 budget statement and economic policy of the government is slated for Thursday, November 24, 2022.
