The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is embarking on a clean-up exercise to rid the markets of all products that are unsafe for consumption.
The team of officials began sweeping through shops in the Greater Accra region specifically from the Ashongman Estate, Kwabenya, and parts of Dome Pillar 2.
The exercise is part of measures the government has put in place to ensure public safety going into the Christmas festivities.
The move was necessitated by the growing concerns about some crooks in the business who would sell unsafe products to unsuspecting customers for profitmaking.
This informed the decision of the Upper East Regional Director of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Sebastian Mawuli Hotor, to caution the public to be wary not to fall victim to such.
“Usually when it gets to the end of the year and Christmas, those whose products are nearing expiration, reduce their prices and sell. The danger is that if you buy too much for your stock, you will end up with products expiring in your home,” he said.
In the exercise to ensure that such dishonest act is forestalled, the NADMO officials found expired products including drinks still on shelves awaiting purchases, all of which they have discarded.
