Ex Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Kofi Abanga has attributed his failure to reach the highest peak of his footballing career to injuries.

According to the skillful midfielder, the injuries he continued to sustain during his playing days prevented his potentials from materializing to get him the top level as projected by many football pundits.

Speaking in interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the 33-year old inactive footballer said, “I had the dream of playing for a top European club before retirement but it didn’t happen because of recurring injuries.”

“Injuries have affected me a lot. When I got injured, I didn’t get early treatment, I overused my leg and did not get time to treat it well. I should have made time and treated it but I took in injections to stay fit and play for Hearts” Kofi Abanga observed.

He revealed that in the process, he had the opportunity playing for a second division club in China but turned down the offer since he regarded the Asian country as a non-football nation.

However, to him irrespective of the injury woes that distracted his playing abilities, he served the rainbow club from the bottom of his heart.

“My spell with Hearts of Oak was plagued by injuries but I was able to do what was expected of me for the club. I served wholeheartedly. I was able to help the club win the league, FA Cup and others just that I couldn’t play to the highest level” said Abanga.

Snubbing Asante Kotoko for arc rivals Hearts Of Oak in what became a much talked about transfer in Ghana, he went on to win laurels with the Accra-based club.
