The Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Peter Twumasi has debunked reportage indicating that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rejected the Baba Yara Stadium from hosting international matches.

This follows after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had published that the continent’s football governing body had excluded Baba Yara from its list of approved stadiums for Senior Category “A” matches.

The publication means the Black stars cannot host any of their qualifying matches of the 2023 AFCON to be hosted in Cote d’Ivoire, same as Kumasi Asante Kotoko who cannot play CAF continental matches at same venue, should they be adjudged champions of the ongoing 2023 Ghana Premier League.

However, the NSA Boss in a Facebook post has said neither Baba Yara, Cape Coast and Accra Sports stadia have undergone inspections from CAF, let alone face rejection.

“The National Sports Authority (NSA) wishes to debunk reports going round that its stadia have been rejected by CAF after visits. NSA is waiting on GFA’s request as to which stadia they intend to use for their CAF matches”
“Such communication hasn’t been received yet and therefore no CAF inspection conducted in our facilities recently for CAF matches this season” the Sports Authority wrote.

Meanwhile, the stadium had earlier received a one-match approval that paved way for Ghana to host their 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff against Nigeria, a game played on Friday, March 25, 2022.
