GFA launch 2nd edition of KGL Foundation U-17 Champions League

The Ghana Football Association and KGL Foundation have launched the second Edition of the KGL Foundation U-17 Inter Club Champions League tournament.

The second edition of the competition is scheduled for the Madina AstroTurf and the McDan La Town Park all in the Greater Accra region starting from Saturday, September 10 – Saturday, September 24, 2022.

At the launch, KGL Foundation presented footballs, cones, sets of jerseys, training bibs, a trophy for the overall winner, a golden boot for the top scorer, and golden gloves for the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Delivering a speech, a Director of the KGL Group, Ken Mpare, said the company is a desire to the commitment to the development of sports in the country, particularly grassroots football.

He added that football is well renowned for instilling fundamental life qualities such as cooperation, sacrifice, dexterity, and devotion which aligns perfectly with the company’s main enabling pillars of collaboration, innovation, and empowerment.

According to Mr. Ken Mpare, Sports have become critical to achieving national, long-term, and individual development which defines one of KGL Foundation’s topic areas, which aims at giving young people the option to channel their energies into positive activities rather than being involved in societal vices.

He projected that this year’s edition of the competition will unearth brilliant talents who will go on to lift high the flag of Ghana at the juvenile and senior levels of football.

Receiving the items, President of the Ghana Football Association Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, commended KGL Foundation for embarking on such an initiative to help revive Juvenile football in the country.

He added “We have through diverse ways shown commitment in fixing the fundamentals and it is no surprise that today, we have reached this milestone.

“Last year, we organized a hugely successful edition in Accra and this year won’t be an exception. Through the support of KGL Foundation, the Ghana Football Association shall provide transport, accommodation, feeding, and footballs to all the participating teams,” Mr. Kurt-Okraku emphasisied.

The GFA president ceased the platform and called on other corporate entities to emulate KGL Foundation to help “bring our football back to where we belong because the future looks very bright.”

The event was attended by former Ghanaian International Augustine Arhinful, Juvenile Committee Member, Eugene Jarquaye, Micheal Fiadusi, Sulley Sherif, Inusah Ahmed, and Amidu Abdulai, General Secretary of the GFA Prosper Harrison Addo and the Greater Accra Regional Football Association Chairman, Samuel Aboabire.
