Spokesperson for the Dr Bawumia for President campaign team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has said that a candidate’s position of candidature on ballot paper does not solely wins elections.

According to him, the position of candidates on ballot papers only become significant once the hearts and mind of voters are won through education.

His comments come at the back of the New Patriotic Party’s balloting of its presidential aspirants ahead of its November 4, 2024 presidential primary.

In the balloting exercise held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central, retained the number one position on the ballot.

Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia picked the number two spot with Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh picked the third and fourth positions, respectively.

Balloting for the NPP presidential primary, organised by the Electoral Commission (EC) and the party’s election committee, involved four aspirants only, after the withdrawal of the former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen from the flagbearer race.

“The elections committee, in collaboration with officials from the Electoral Commission of Ghana, successfully conducted the balloting for the contestants,” the NPP said in a statement.

Kennedy Agyapong who maintained his number one spot believes he is destined to lead the NPP to the 2024 election therefore he is going to beat his contestants on November 4, 2024.

But Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a member of the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia campaign team has laughed off the assertion of Mr. Agyapong adding that winning elections goes beyond appearing on balloting.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s camp is not perturbed by the comments of their close contender because positioning on the ballot paper is not as important as winning the heart of voters.

He believes there are more works to do to annexing votes to emerge victorious in a poll than dancing to the tune of mere balloting.

“If it could be recalled some people resorted doing calculations prior to the super delegates conference that Dr. Bawumia were last on the balloting and a whole a lot.

“But we said the position the position on the ballot is not as important to us as winning the heart and mind of the voters and we will stand by that,” he said on the Angel Morning Show.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye added that “Position on the ballot paper is important but its importance comes with election education.
