Real Tamale United and Accra Hearts of Oak will open the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season with an epic clash today, September 15, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

The game, which is expected to be a fierce contest between the two traditional clubs, paves the way for the new football season to continue from other league centres on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The game will be broadcast live on StarTimes Adepa channel 247 at 6:00 PM.

RTU who plays as the home team will be commencing the season without some key players such as Stephen Badu Dankwa, Abdul Manaf Umar, Nurudeen Yussif Mohammed, Kwame Boakye, Roland Frimpong, Sadat Mohammed Mathew Abayase and Issah Kuka.

However, the Pride of the North will rely on new signings Christan Gyan, Faisal Dauda, Mohammed Abuu and Abdul Aziz to conjure magic for the team.

Hearts of Oak is also going into the game and the new season at large without Robert Addo Sowah, Caleb Amankwah, Junior Kaaba, Yassan Oatching, and Gladson Awako.

But they have added the likes of Kelvin Osei Asibey from Eleven Wonders, Kofi Agbesimah from Bechem United, Micheal Ampadu, and Liventus Attur.

Other new signees are Martin Karikari, Rapheal Amponsah and Wanet Kasala Ramos, as well as new head coach Martinus Koopman.

The former Premier League Champions having boosted their squad with the aforementioned players will hope to start the season on a good note amid improving on their poor campaign last season.

Since the return of Real Tamale United to the topflight league in the 2021/22 league season, the team has yet to lose a game against Hearts of Oak in four games, having won three and drawn one.

RTU has won and drawn one each at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium and is yet to lose a game against Hearts of Oak at home.
