Chaos, Laughter, and the Cedi: Ghana’s 2023 Rollercoaster
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Picture this: Ghana, the stage for a year-long theatrical extravaganza. As we dive into the rollercoaster that was 2023, brace yourselves for a journey through the Ghanaian saga, where reality outshone fiction, and the script was penned by the unpredictable hand of fate.

January:
Our tale kicks off in January, still reeling from the December 2022 fiesta. Social media, the grand arena of Ghana’s digital theater, hosted a relentless encore of last year’s hits. Meanwhile, inflation and the cedi embarked on a duet – a tango that left us all breathless with a 54.1% inflation rate. It’s like the economy decided to moonwalk its way into chaos.

February:
February, the calm before the storm, sipped cocoa in the corner. A moment of silence for Christian Atsu set the tone, but wait, a video bursts onto the scene asking, “Wo K)) h) k) y33 d3n?” Translation: “What did you go there for?” Life, the ultimate sitcom, needs no script.

March:
March, the month of drama, unveiled Father Bernard’s burial saga. A lady stole the spotlight, leaping onto the casket, proclaiming, “Ei Father Bernard!” Move over soap operas; Ghana just dropped a reality TV bombshell.

April:
In April, Hakimi’s divorce saga played out like a Shakespearean tragedy. The wife sought half his wealth, only to discover Hakimi’s fortune was a ghost – hidden in his mother’s name. Love and finances, a tale as old as time, took an unexpected twist.

May:
May brought closure to the Gyakye-Quayson saga – a courtroom thriller with the court ruling against him. His name expelled from parliamentary books, cue the political suspense; it’s election time in Assin-North.

June:
June, the blockbuster month. Assin North’s by-elections crowned Gyakye Quayson, but the real drama unfolded in the Sarkodie vs. Yvonne Nelson showdown. A musical duel, a literary battlefield – Ghanaian celebs were dropping bombs like it was a pop culture war.

July:
July, enter Cecelia Dapaah’s million-dollar scandal. A minister reported theft but found herself in the hot seat. Cash, euros, and cedis danced away, leaving us questioning if this was a political thriller or an economic sitcom.

August:
August decided to tax luck with a 10% tax on betting and lotto winnings. Kennedy Agyapong, not one to be left out, threatened a political showdown – because what’s politics without little theatrics?

September:
September, #OccupyJulorBiHouse attempted to shake up the Jubilee House, but the police played the bouncers. It’s like planning a surprise party and forgetting the birthday person was on the guest list.

October:
In October, a moment of silence for former First Lady Mrs. Theresa Kufuor, leaving us wondering if October was the month for earthly exits. Suspense thickens as the year progresses.

November:
“The Actual Showdown” in November saw Bawumia triumphant in a fierce flagbearer race. Kennedy Agyapong might need a new scriptwriter, as this showdown didn’t end as planned. OSP Ankwanoma, our anti-corruption superhero, warns of doom, channeling his inner Daddy Lumba. Someone get this man a cape; he’s on a mission, and the climax approaches.

December:
Our grand finale in December, a Sing-a-thon spectacle. Afua Asantewaa sang her way into history, breaking records with over 126 hours of nonstop singing. Forget earworms; we’ve got “earwhales”. Ghana laughed, cried, and sang its way through 2023, proving once again that reality is the best comedy show in town.

And so, as the curtains draw on Ghana’s 2023 theatrical run, we’ve laughed, cried, and sung our way through a script penned by destiny. A year where reality imitated satire, and the punchlines were delivered by the whims of fate. As we exit this theater of the absurd, we leave you with the echoes of Ghana’s 2023 – a comedy, drama, and musical rolled into one, leaving us eagerly awaiting the encore of 2024. Welcome to the unpredictably hilarious world of Ghanaian reality!
