Management of the Yilo Krobo District Hospital in the Eastern Region are racing against time to prevent the operations of the facility being halted.
The development stems from the facility’s unpaid power bills after incurring a debt of over GH¢1.3 million owed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
According to the ECG, the management of the Yilo Krobo District Hospital have refused to make payment to the power distribution company since April 2022.
According to Angel News’ Reporter, Jaman Dehyee Opambour, the situation has compelled the Tema Region of the ECG which Yilo Krobo falls under, to serve management of the hospital with a notice to settle their outstanding debt within 14 working days failure for which the facility will be cut off the national grid.
“The hospital has been served with a notice of 14 working days to settle the arrears else they will cut off their power supply,” the reporter stated on the Midday News on Angel FM/TV, Friday.
Management of the Yilo Krobo District Hospital have remained silent on the matter as they expressed no interest speaking to journalists, the reporter noted.
Speaking on the matter, the Tema Regional Public Relations Officer of the ECG, Sakyiwaa Mensah, confirmed the development and added that they are looking forward to the hospital settling the debt.
“Yes, it is true they owe us close to GH¢1.4 million. The exact debt is GH¢1,398,955. It is a huge sum amount, since April 2022, our records tell us that they have not paid anything to us,” he told the news anchor Kwadwo Dickson.
She explained that “we have not disconnected them, but we have served them a prior notice to pay the debt else we will decide whether to disconnect them or not and that will be a very uncomfortable situation we [ECG] may not find ourselves there.”
