The Akwamuhene, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, has paid a working visit to the Akosombo Industrial Company Limited (AICL), formerly Akosombo Textiles Limited.

This was to familiarise himself with their operations and be abreast with the developments and investments, especially at the textiles factory.

The premises currently are home to the Akosombo Textiles factory and the newly established World Shoe factory.

Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III who is also President of the Akwamu Traditional Council, began his tour from the World Shoe Factory, where he was appreciative of the progress it had made in its output and employment since its launch in October 2023.

He was excited upon hearing plans were in advance to increasing its production and employment.

The World Shoe Factory currently produces about 5,000 shoes per day and will double its installed production capacity by mid-2024.Akwamumanhene AICL visit

He thanked the leadership of Akosombo Industrial Company Ltd for attracting this investment and helping to set it up on its premises.

Odeneho and his entourage then moved to have an extensive tour of the Akosombo Textiles factory where he inspected some of its recently installed machinery.

He applauded the management for being sustainability-conscious and installing a biomass boiler.

The Akwamumanhene also commended for using an environmentally friendly option to generate its steam to run production activities. Akwamumanhene AICL visit

In addition to other investments, the entourage stopped at the newly installed state-of-the-art printing machine to observe the production on the line.

According to the Factory Manager, Ing. Kenneth Asare, the machine is capable of producing over one million yards a month and its product quality will be at the level needed to compete more robustly both locally and internationally.Akwamumanhene AICL visit

Speaking later at a meeting held in the factory to round off his tour, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III stated: “A lot of work had been done and this was commendable.”

“Despite the challenges, I encourage all stakeholders to support the management team to ensure that AICL is returned to Akosombo Textiles to its full glory,” he stated.

On his part, the CEO of AICL, Kofi Boateng thanked Odeneho and his entourage for the working visit and for being a consistent source of encouragement and support.

He reiterated management’s commitment to the growth and sustenance of the business and to working with the workers’ union to address all pending issues.Akwamumanhene AICL visit

Present at the interaction and meeting were some members of staff, union executives and management.
