Host of the morning show on Angel TV and Angel 102.9 FM in Accra, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah recently visited Tarkwa in the Western Region and came back with information that many would not want to hear

People have entered the forests, deep and are ravaging the environment without showing mercy. Water bodies have been battered and discoloured in search of the precious mineral, stated Monday, April 22, 2024 on his widely-followers show.

Aside that, there there’s a price to pay by persons who come across the line of fire between gangs who control the forests– total elimination from the face of this earth!

These groups, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah reports, brandish sophisticated weapons to ward off potential enemies around their territories- and he secured exclusive visuals to back his story.

On Tuesday, April 23, the Chief of Gwira Abelebo, a community in the Nzema East Municipality while speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) programme, cried for help over the destruction of their land due to illegal mining activities in the locality.

The traditional leader complained that, the activities of the mining company have destroyed the vegetation cover of the area.

Nana Dominle Mienzah II revealled that, the mining company responsible for the menace is Okoben Mining Company Limited. He disclosed that the mining company has been in existence since 2012 and has destroyed their lands since.

“The man in charge is Okoben Mining Company and has been operating since 2012 and has destroyed all our lands leaving mining pits uncovered which destroys the land and vegetative cover,” he said.

He also revealed that all efforts to bring Okoben Mining to order have proved futile.

“We have reported them to the Axim Police division and have visited the sites with them but they have failed to address the issue for us,” he told Okatakyie.

Nana Dominle Mienzah II also hinted that, the mining company has no license of operation and has been mining with a prospecting license which expired in 2018.

“He claimed he had license for the mining activities not knowing it was a prospecting license which he acquired in 2017 and has expired since 2017 and he is still mining with the expired prospecting license,” he said.
