Former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Ade-Coker, has expressed his disappointment in the current government’s handling of the economy in spite of the names they give to their budgets.
According to Ade-Coker, these elaborately titled budgets have failed to achieve their intended purposes, leading to further deterioration of the country’s financial situation.
“After all, the Adwenpa budget, Mputuo budget, Nkosuor budget, Obatanpa budget, Agyenkwa budget and Nkunim budget, we are bankrupt. Despite all these names, the country has nothing to show for it,” he remarked on Angel Morning Show.
He argued that these ostentatious budget names have not only failed to improve the economy but have also exacerbated the debt situation, pushing the country deeper into poverty.
“When we left office in 2016, Ghana’s debt was around GHS 120 billion. Today, our debt has skyrocketed to approximately GHS 742 billion, meaning every Ghanaian now owes GHS 25,000.00 as part of our national debt.”
Ade-Coker added that despite the heavy borrowing and high-sounding budget titles, many Ghanaians continue to live in dire poverty.
“The poverty in this economy is so worrying that about 33% of the populace are living in abject poverty after seven and a half years of their rule,” he lamented.
