Education psychologist at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Professor Eric Anane, has stated that leaders in the country should maintain consistency in education planning to prevent a truncated system when there is a change of government.
In a phone interview with Saddick Adams on the Angel Morning Show on February 3, 2025, Eric Anane emphasised the need for proper consistency in Ghana’s education. He argued that there should be a long-term policy to support the education system in Ghana.
According to him, changing Ghana’s education system with each change of government will not benefit the educational landscape; instead, it will delay the progress of the education system.
He pointed out the necessity for a proper structure in primary schools to maintain the number of subjects offered, rather than frequently altering the curriculum, which ultimately does not serve Ghana’s interests.
“Our elections are held every four years, and every time, we attempt to change our educational system in the name of a new government. This approach will not help, and we will not benefit from our education; it will either go to waste or become distorted. It is somewhat truncated, and we hope that when changes are made, they are sent to Parliament to be accepted as policy, rather than altering the educational system each time a new administration comes in,” he asserted.
He further added that the current President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, and his team should focus on reviving the Educational Reform Secretariat (ERS) rather than creating a new educational reform initiative. This approach can help promote Ghana’s education system.
