Akuffo-Addo’s over 120 ministerial appointments was “job for the boys” – Charles Asiedu

Member of Parliament for Tano South, Charles Asiedu, has said that the immediate-past president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo’s ministerial appointments were aimed at creating “jobs for the boys.”

In his submission on the Angel Morning Show on February 6, 2025, Charles Asiedu said that the President, John Dramani Mahama’s appointmentees will not reflect those of the former president, which he described as being made for political allies.

He argued that the over 120 ministers appointed under NPP government contributed to Ghana’s poor economy. According to him, President Mahama’s appointments will not solely depend on those who supported the party to win power.

“President Mahama’s method of appointment is not like that of former president Nana Addo. His ministerial appointments were aimed at creating ‘jobs for the boys.’ We all have our ways of governing the country, both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), so I believe Mahama’s approach is not ‘job for the boys,'” he said.

The MP added that creating additional ministries is not a healthy way to govern the country. He believes that merely supporting a political party to win power does not necessarily mean the President should appoint such persons to be part of the government.

According to him, he is comfortable with the reduction in ministerial appointments by the current administration, as he believes this can help the country to progress.
