The Member of Parliament for Tano South Constituency in the Ahafo Region, Charles Asiedu, has denied ever interjecting the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, in Parliament while on the floor.
According to the lawmaker, the Minority Leader’s accusation that his interjection occasioned “tweaa,” to wit ‘snubbing’ his submission on the floor, was false.
Mr. Asiedu, the son of the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, was accused of saying “tweaa” in Parliament when the Minority Leader was contributing to the discussion on the 60th anniversary of the late Joseph Boakye Danquah.
The interjection quickly drew laughter from MPs across the chamber, prompting the 2nd Deputy Speaker, Andrews Asiamah, to pause the proceedings and ask, “Honourable Leader, hold on, who said that tweaa?”
Despite his question triggering more laughter, there was no admission from the culprit. Mr. Asiamah then proceeded and remarked, “Leader, the person is afraid, so go on.”
Afenyo-Markin then responded, “Mr. Speaker, I know who said it, that is Hon. Asiedu Nketiah’s son, he said it.”
Responding to the Minority Leader’s claim on the Angel Morning Show on Thursday, February 6, 2024, the Tano South MP clarified without hesitation that he was wrongly accused.
“I never said tweaa, the Minority Leader accused me wrongly,” he replied, answering the host’s question on whether he had anything to do with the Minority Leader’s claims.
He emphasized that he holds the Minority Leader in high esteem and personally respects him as his senior in Parliament.
According to him, he has made it a norm to shake hands with the Minority Leader after each parliamentary session.
“Afenyo-Markin is one person I really love. I always greet and shake hands with him after every sitting in Parliament,” said the Tano South MP.
