A leading member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has cast doubt on the effectiveness of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee, established by President John Dramani Mahama, in retrieving funds allegedly looted by past NPP officials while in government. According to him, these funds were ultimately shared by both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), making recovery efforts highly unlikely.

Speaking on the matter, Owusu claimed that recovering over GH¢20 billion allegedly spent by the two dominant political parties would be nearly impossible. He argued that both the NPP and NDC have a history of mismanaging state resources and protecting each other when in opposition.

“Our real problem is these two political parties; they sponsor and protect each other. The same people who misuse funds while in power will occupy key positions when they go into opposition. Recovering such money from them will be extremely difficult… take it from me” he said.

Owusu further alleged that the very individuals tasked with investigating the NPP’s financial dealings are themselves beneficiaries of the system, making it unlikely that any meaningful action will be taken.

“The committee set to investigate these funds is also a beneficiary. No one can recover this money. This issue will go nowhere” he added.

His remarks fuel growing doubts about the government’s ability to recover misappropriated public funds. With concerns over financial accountability rising, many Ghanaians are eager to see whether the ORAL committee can truly deliver on its mandate and ensure transparency and justice.
