The Acting Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Mr. Felix Gyamfi, has announced plans to allocate 50% of priority national service postings to the private sector as part of efforts to equip personnel with practical job experience.
Speaking in a one-on-one interview on the Angel Morning Show hostel by Saddick Adams, Mr. Gyamfi emphasized that the shift is aimed at ensuring that service personnel gain valuable hands-on skills rather than being placed in public sector roles where they may have limited responsibilities.
“People who go to the public sector to do less work will rather go to the private sector, which we acknowledge as the engine of growth” he said.
He explained that the initiative aligns with the NSA’s broader agenda of preparing graduates for the job market by giving them real workplace exposure.
To support this effort, Mr. Gyamfi urged business owners, regardless of the size of their enterprises, to take advantage of the national service scheme and employ service personnel. He believes this will not only benefit businesses but also help graduates transition smoothly from school into the workforce.
“There are no doubts about the quality of Ghanaian graduates, what is left is to bridge the gap between education and employment by providing them with real work-related experiences” he said.
With this policy, the NSA aims to foster stronger ties between academia and industry, ensuring that national service personnel are better prepared for the job market. This initiative, if effectively implemented, could help reduce graduate unemployment and enhance productivity in the private sector.
