The Acting Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Felix Gyamfi has raised concerns over the previous administration’s allocation of a $3.5 million grant from a $13 million package.
According to Gyamfi, the $3.5 million that was allocated in the first year of the grant was largely spent on meetings and training, rather than the intended agricultural development.
In an exclusive interview, on the Angel Morning Show on Friday, February 14, 2025, Gyamfi explained that the grant was meant to support agricultural projects, including the production of tomatoes, rice, soybeans, and poultry. However, the funds were misused, with a significant portion being spent on travel and conferences for professionals, rather than supporting on-the-ground agricultural initiatives.
“The $3.5 million contract signed before my tenure was meant for agriculture, but instead, it was diverted to meetings and training sessions. Under my administration, this will not happen” He said.
Gyamfi emphasized the importance of accountability, questioning the role of those who attended these meetings, asking them what practical contributions they would make to the agricultural projects. “If you are not contributing to the project, there is no reason for you to be traveling at all” he added.
The Acting Director-General further criticized the lack of tangible outcomes from the previous administration’s spending. “The money sent to the National Service Authority was not used to support the agricultural projects. There was no discernible value or impact from these expenditures” He said.
Looking forward, Gyamfi assured that his administration would focus on delivering real results, despite the challenges faced in the first year. “Although we lost valuable time in the first year, we are determined not to repeat the same mistakes. Last year they managed just 10 acres of tomatoes, an achievement that is even questionable. This year we aim to cultivate 70 acres of tomatoes, a significant increase that reflects our commitment to actual progress.”
With a clear focus on accountability and results, Gyamfi is determined to ensure that the funds allocated for agricultural development are used efficiently and effectively.
