The leader of the Union Government, Akwasi Addae Odike, has called out the 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his posture during the party’s ongoing nationwide “thank you tour” following its defeat in the recent election.
According to Odike, Dr. Bawumia has resorted to “intellectual dishonesty” in the wake of the nationwide exercise, under the pretext of reconciliation amid reforms for a comeback in 2028.
He explained that the former vice president’s posture is nothing more than an attempt to distort the facts behind their defeat in academic intellectual terms.
“Dr. Bawumia has spoken, but if you weigh his remarks, what he is doing is what we call intellectual dishonesty because what he cited as factors for their defeat is not the case. The majority of the people knew exactly what the factors were.
In the first place, we heard the economic jargon Bawumia was giving us in power on how to deal with the economy—’when the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you,’ but none of it worked out,” he said.
He also took a swipe at Dr. Bawumia and questioned why he failed to cite himself as part of the reasons, indicating that many of his failed policies while in government were also major factors.
“All the economic policies rolled out by Dr. Bawumia, the Gold for Oil, this and that, not a single one brought us a positive result,” Odike added.
According to the businessman, among all other factors, one of the key issues was “corruption and corruption-related activities,” which had a deep impact on the NPP administration under the Akufo-Addo government.
The presidential hopeful made the assertion on Monday, April 28, 2025, during the Angel Morning Show (AMS) hosted by Saddick Adams when discussing Dr. Bawumia’s admission of arrogance in power, the E-Levy, the DDEP, and other contributing factors to the NPP’s defeat to the NDC.
Odike thus advised the leadership of the NPP to focus on embarking on major reforms within the party for restructuring, rather than continuing the “thank you tour,” as it is not the solution.
