Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has made a shocking allegation against President John Dramani Mahama regarding the move to oust suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office.
Mr. Boadu claimed that the President personally wrote the petition to remove the Chief Justice, contrary to the claims being made.
“He [President Mahama] is the one who wrote the petition himself. I’m not suggesting it, I’m stating it. It’s a fact,” he told the media.
According to Boadu, Mr. Mahama’s ultimate goal is to secure a third term in office by packing the Supreme Court with sympathetic judges.
“If you listen to all NDC members, you can clearly see that it is an orchestrated agenda to remove the Chief Justice and pack the Supreme Court. Why are we being hypocritical?” Mr. Boadu asked, emphasizing that Mahama’s actions were part of a calculated agenda to undermine the judiciary.
The former NPP General Secretary made the claim when the main opposition party led a coalition of political parties to present a petition to Parliament during its “Save the Judiciary demo.”
He, however, expressed hope that a counter-petition would be presented at the Presidency to prevent the Chief Justice’s removal.
Mr. Boadu called on Ghanaians to join the fight against what he described as the President’s unfortunate attempt to “denigrate the only institution (the judiciary)that must be left standing.”
